Compliance Plan and Risk Management Training
EPMG will implement comprehensive programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws regarding the provision of emergency services, billing and documentation, and employment and workplace behavioral issues.
Compliance Plan
- COBRA/EMTALA: All EPMG clinicians must participate in EPMG's educational program on COBRA/EMTALA. This program includes education, examination, and certification.
- Correct Coding and Billing Policy: EPMG will provide appropriate orientation to all billing and coding personnel regarding ethical responsibilities, policies, and laws. Standards for regular monitoring, audits, and implementation of corrective plans have been established.
- JCAHO: EPMG recognizes the expectation to maintain a departmental policy and procedure manual that meets JCAHO requirements. Documentation is essential at all of our facilities. The medical director will have the primary responsibility for maintaining these requirements and will gain the input of other experienced EPMG leadership. Several members of our group are active in state and national professional associations and have served on JCAHO committees.
Risk Management Training Program
It is EPMG's philosophy that clinicians will adhere to clinical guidelines after obtaining a thorough understanding of the medical and legal ramifications in the practice of emergency medicine. It is mandatory that all of EPMG's clinicians attend the nationally recognized risk management program entitled "Managing Risk in Emergency Medicine", approved by the American College of Emergency Physicians for CME Category I credit.
An integral component of our risk management program is customer service training. This training program emphasizes the importance of customer service in risk avoidance and quality improvement. Course participants learn specific techniques in improving patient relations which ultimately result in an overall enhancement of patient satisfaction.
As part of our relationship, EPMG will work cooperatively with administration, nursing personnel, and medical staff to implement a risk management training program specific to the unique needs of the hospital. Furthermore, it has been EPMG's experience that an effective customer service program has a direct effect on decreasing liability exposure.
EPMG is confident that the combination of our risk management program and our Continuous Quality Improvement System will provide the foundation of standardization required to effectively deliver cost-effective emergency medicine services.
