Establishing Positive Relationships
Developing a sense of ownership and commitment is the key to a successful and integrated emergency department. EPMG encourages our physician leadership to create a sense of ownership and dedication with all of our hospital partners. Positive relationships are a key element to establishing and maintaining a long-term relationship. Willingness to share information with the medical staff, providing status reports with the hospital leadership and board, conducting regular emergency department staff meetings, are examples of creating an environment of open communication and trust. Demonstrating a willingness to address issues and make continual improvements is part of the training and support that EPMG offers to its physician leaders.
Accessibility, communication, and availability are so important to EPMG we include these factors in our physician leadership performance evaluations. Our hospital partner's feedback in this area is critically important to us. Embracing the communication tools of the hospital, participating on the medical staff committee, volunteering for leadership roles within the hospital and community, are just a few examples that can go a long way in building relationships with medical staff, hospital administration, and the community we serve. EPMG has a long history of physician leaders who serve as the Chief of Staff, Chairman of the Board, committee members, and emergency physicians.
The test of a true partner is the willingness to go the extra mile to build relationships and support the team. EPMG encourages our physician leaders to sponsor emergency department functions, celebrate success with all team members, and offer recognition to the team. This effort in combination with demonstrated involvement of our physician leaders is what builds a solid relationship.
