Clinician Leadership Development:

  • Leadership and Management Forum
Held quarterly, the Forums provide an educational and networking opportunity to enhance leadership skills and operational processes. Participants take advantage of the immeasurable knowledge and experience that is available within EPMG. In addition, outside presenters provide material that can then be disseminated through the Medical Directors and Regional Vice Presidents to all of EPMG’s partner sites.

  • New Medical Director Orientation
All Medical Directors attend a comprehensive orientation at EPMG’s corporate office. This ensures that the expectations and responsibilities for the Medical Director position are consistently presented. During this orientation each Medical Director will become familiar with the resources and support services that are available from EPMG to support the emergency department.

  • ACEP Emergency Department Director's Academy
All EPMG Medical Directors have the opportunity to attend the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Emergency Department Director’s Academy. This academy is structured to provide Medical Directors with the enhanced leadership and communications skills. Divided into four phases, this academy consists of fifteen days of classroom training, networking with other Medical Directors and an independent study project.

In an effort to promote cooperativeness amongst hospital staffs, Phase II of the Academy focuses on leadership development and collaboration between physician and nursing leadership. Both Medical Directors and their nursing leaders have the opportunity to attend Phase II.

Clinician Continuing Education:

The purpose of EPMG’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) program is to provide high quality, evidence-based educational opportunities that advance the knowledge, skills, and performance of our providers. Our programs facilitate self-directed, practice-based education that supports our providers and their commitment to lifelong learning. EPMG, PC has been awarded Initial Accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and this accreditation enables us to provide continuing medical education with AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for physicians.

We have established a framework for CME based on core competencies that have been developed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). They include patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practices. We also draw content from the Institute of Medicine (IOM), who focus on delivering patient care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, and fair. All content is based on the best evidence from the medical sciences, risk management, and quality improvement theories.

  • EPMG offers an online Learning Management System (LMS), which offers over 350 online education modules for clinicians to access at any time. The system maintains the clinicians’ educational records for easy tracking and reporting.

  • We provide an annual subscription to either “Emergency Medicine Practice” or “Pediatric Emergency Medicine Practice” for clinicians. These journals provide evidence-based educational opportunities with CME credits.

  • We also provide annual training that will assist clinicians in minimizing the risks in their practice. Leading experts provide valuable insight focused specifically on emergency medicine.

Nursing and Staff Education:

EPMG’s Quality and Patient Safety Team has advanced knowledge and clinical expertise to improve patient outcomes by using a variety of educational strategies such as:

  • Simulation scenarios promoting patient safety, and team collaboration
  • Onsite education (in-services specifically designed for site: customer satisfaction, 1-Lead ECG class, etc.)
  • Onsite courses (TNCC, ACLS, ENPC)
  • Development of competencies
  • Development of educational modules (paper based or interactive e-learning)

In addition, the Quality and Patient Safety Team offers quarterly webinars and sponsors an annual collaborative Leadership and Management Forum for nursing leaders and medical directors with current topics.
